1. GDST Gender Awareness Day at Sheffield Girls’

    On Tuesday 2 May Sheffield Girls’ welcomed pupils and teachers from GDST schools in the North of England to a training day aimed at raising awareness in pupils and staff of issues facing trans-gender people in our society.

    We wished our Year 7 linguists (Samira Sanders - French, Aida Tesfaye - Spanish, Alisa Ivanov - German) the best of luck in the Route to Languages Languages Spelling Bee as they travelled to Bradford on Tuesday 2 May to take part in the Regional finals of the competition.

    Three of our enterprising Year 9 students have won the trip of a lifetime to Amsterdam at the prestigious 10th annual BiG Challenge Awards for school and college students, sponsored by major law firm DLA Piper, one of the top law firms in the world, who started in Sheffield.

    On 26 April, our regular visiting poet, Ash Dickinson, who is a writer, poet and comedy performer, ran two sessions with the groups introducing three poems from the GCSE anthology which they will all study next year.

    On Friday 17 March four Trampolining teams travelled to the National Finals in Newcastle. They had gone through two gruelling qualifying rounds at Regional (Yorkshire and Humberside) and then Zonal (North GB) to reach this stage.     Nearly 350 students across Years 4 - Year 10 got the chance to go on a school trip without leaving the school site last week. Among the places visited were: the solar system, underwater eco-systems, steam railways, the reproductive system and Roman ruins.
