Infant & Junior Fusion Curriculum
We see learning as an exciting journey, filled with discovery, discussion and fun. We enjoy fostering curiosity, appreciation and creativity, often spilling out beyond the classroom.
Developing learners for a new tomorrow
We empower our pupils to become the leaders, innovators and game-changers of the future. We want them to develop an inclusive and broad perspective so that they leave the school, with the ability to engage with their local, national and international communities, and a burning desire to do good in the world.
Our Fusion Curriculum is designed to equip our pupils with the skills and qualities demanded by life in the 21st century. It is filled with inspirational and stimulating experiences, whilst still being flexible and responsive to individual needs and interests. We want your daughters to thrive as happy, confident learners who face challenges with independence, resilience and determination - and our Fusion Curriculum achieves just that.
Our school values in practice
At the core of the Fusion Curriculum are our School Values: Positivity; Kindness; and Courage.
Positivity – we support our girls to focus on their mental health and well-being of themselves and others around them. They develop a positive view of the diversity of our school, and gain a sense of equality, fairness and social justice.
Courage – our pupils learn to find their voice and confidently articulate their opinions and ideas. They embrace new ideas, take risks, and harness innovation, inquiry and curiosity, by thinking critically, creatively and reflectively.
Kindness – our pupils express themselves respectfully and with empathy. We support the girls as they develop both their personal and learning relationships and gain confidence participating in group work and acting as part of a team.
Competencies for Learning
Our Fusion Curriculum seeks to develop six key competencies for learning:
- Creativity: Our pupils are encouraged to generate and explore new ideas, making original connections. We help them try different ways to tackle problems and working with others to find imaginative solutions.
- Independence: We help our pupils to develop their self-management and motivation skills, and engender a can-do attitude. Our girls establish personal goals, make plans, manage projects and can strategise.
- Morality and Ethics: We develop our pupils’ sense of fairness, self-regulation, integrity and social responsibility. Acknowledging the global pace of change and innovation, pupils ask salient and responsible questions, based on a resolute moral and ethical framework.
- Confidence: From a young age we teach our pupils to listen actively, recognise different points of view, and debate ideas. We use group work to encourage girls to communicate clearly, come up with new approaches, and employ humility in their interactions with others.
- Appreciation: Across all year groups we develop a love of art, music, nature and physical activity. Pupils who are competent, appreciative learners develop understanding, knowledge and a respect of culture as global citizens. .
- Curious Cognition: We teach our pupils to be critical thinkers to develop their understanding and help them make decisions. Intellectual curiosity is at the heart of our Fusion Curriculum, supporting our pupils to become analytical problem solvers.
These competencies feature in every aspect of learning and each subject area.
Subject focuses
We place great importance on developing the girls’ English , Maths and Science skills, to enable them to build solid foundations in literacy, numeracy and science.
The girls’ knowledge and understanding of the world they live in is developed further through the Humanities, Modern Foreign Languages and Religious Education. Their creative expression is given the opportunity to thrive through work in Art and Design, Music and Drama, and Sport lessons encourage physical activity and good health.
STEM projects draw together learning in Science, Technology and Maths to develop pupil’s problems solving skills, and Robotics, Coding and Programming form the basis of our computing programme.
A global future
All girls from Year 1 upwards have access to a Chromebook enabling us to embed IT literacy across the curriculum, and at all stages. The use of Chromebooks gives us the opportunity to approach lessons in a more innovative and creative way, and continues to support Hybrid learning during ioslation periods for students, preventing any gaps in learning.
Pupils are encouraged to consider the wider global context as they make connections across learning areas, guided by our key competencies. Topic include
- Sustainability – exploring the long term impact of social, cultural, scientific, technological, economic or political practices on society and the environment.
- Citizenship – exploring what it means to be a citizen and to contribute to the development and well-being of society.
- Enterprise – exploring what it is to be innovative and entrepreneurial.
- Globalisation – exploring what it means to be part of a global community and to live amongst diverse cultures.
- Financial – developing economic capability, positioning learners to make well-informed decisions throughout their lives.
