The Secondary School Curriculum
Our curriculum combines traditional, practical and scientific subjects with modern and creative fields to ensure a balanced and rich secondary school education. It inspires students to explore their passions and advance their knowledge in areas they find challenging.
The girls follow a broad curriculum in Years 7 to 9. All the girls study separate Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as two Modern Languages (French, German or Spanish) in addition to Latin in Year 8.
In Years 10 and 11 girls make their choices to study a wide range of GCSE core and optional subjects. Most girls will study 9 subjects at GCSE, although some will take 10 if they choose an additional subject outside the normal curriculum. We offer 23 GCSE subjects, including three separate science subjects and six modern foreign or classical languages.
We feel our rich curriculum enables us to be one of the best secondary schools in Sheffield whilst supporting pupils so they can become independent thinkers and problem solvers. For more information on the GCSE subjects we offer, please see the Senior School Curriculum page.

Year 11 and Year 13 pupils at Sheffield Girls' consistently perform extremely well and our results set us amongst the best secondary schools in Yorkshire.
Statistics nationally continue to show that girls gain better results if educated in a single-sex secondary school environment. Recent research shows that the percentage of A grades achieved at A level by girls in independent single-sex schools in Sciences, Maths, Further Maths, French, History and Geography was on average 10% higher than girls in independent co-educational schools.
The encouragement and nurturing provided in a single-sex secondary school builds girls’ confidence and gives them the skills to leave school at 18 as dynamic young women, able to hold their own, be confident in themselves and successful in their chosen careers.
