Personal Social Health and Economic Education

PSHE Education is an important strand in the curriculum and is followed by all students from Years 7-11 at Sheffield Girls'.

The PSHE programme is wide and varied and aims to enable students to become:

  • Successful learners who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
  • Confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
  • Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society

PSHE lessons are intended to be relaxed but focused sessions where students can:

  • Acquire relevant information and increase their knowledge
  • Develop their own values and attitudes
  • Develop a range of skills that will enable them to participate actively in society

PSHE lessons, however, are only the starting point. Students are shown where they can access relevant resources (leaflets, helplines and websites) for advice, support and guidance so that they can help themselves - so important in today’s increasingly challenging world.

The PSHE Education Programme of Study (comprising Health & Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World) is available on the PSHE website enabling students and parents to see which topics are being studied when so that meaningful discussions can go on at home too.

In addition to lessons, the PSHE Department also makes a significant contribution to the wider life of the school through

  • Arranging visiting speakers in lessons and other events
  • Peer Education in Sexual Health: an enrichment option for Year 12 students which trains them up to deliver Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) sessions to younger students
  • Curriculum Days for Years 8-9 – Health/Values for Life
  • Teen Issues Evenings  for parents
