What’s in a Scone?
Our Year 5 girls have been having a great time this week in Design Technology, evaluating shop-bought and homemade scones for appearance, texture, aroma and, most importantly, taste!
They then moved onto making a batch of plain scones. Weighing the ingredients, combining them to make fine crumbs before adding just enough liquid, as well as rolling and cutting the dough gave the girls opportunities to learn new skills and ways to avoid the pitfalls.
Next week they will be thinking about which flavours they could add to a plain scone mixture. By the end of the unit, they will be venturing over to the senior school to make and bake their own invention in the lovely cookery room!
