Welcoming our Class of 2026 Sixth Form Cohort!

It’s been a busy week at 1 Melbourne Avenue, our dedicated Sixth Form Centre, as we have hosted a number of activities for our new Year 12 cohort at Sheffield Girls’. We were delighted to welcome girls old and new to the School for their first full week in Sixth Form, marking an exciting transition in their educational journeys.

After a few days of settling into their new space, the week kicked off with an adrenaline-boosting Year 12 Induction Day at Thornbridge Hall. Our core school values of Courage, Positivity and Kindness were on display in abundance on the trip as girls helped each other conquer their fears, push themselves beyond their comfort zones and forge friendships outside of the classroom. This trip is always a highlight of our Sixth Form Induction Programme, and, despite it being only 4 days into term, there was already an incredibly strong sense of support and camaraderie on display.

Our busy induction programme continued on Thursday evening with our annual Celebration of GCSE Results and Welcome to the Sixth Form Evening. This was the perfect opportunity to officially mark the start of our students’’ Sixth Form journeys with their parents and families. This cohort achieved an outstanding set of GCSE results this summer (74% of grades were awarded 9-7) and it was wonderful to gather in the Sports Hall with their families, friends and teachers to formally congratulate them. The latter half of this event acts as an official welcome to the Sixth Form, with girls hearing talks from key staff about the exciting two years ahead of them, including all of the opportunities on offer to them beyond their studies.

The Sixth Form at Sheffield Girls’ is about so much more than A Levels. Alongside academic excellence (59% of A Levels were awarded A*/A in 2024), bespoke pastoral care and smaller class sizes, our Sixth Formers benefit from our innovative approach to careers education and enrichment, truly giving them everything they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our unique Forging Futures Enrichment programme encourages girls to hone their interests and skills by participating in an extensive range of enrichment sessions. These include Photography, Event Management and Peer Educators. Girls also enjoy tutorials on a range of topics including UCAS application and interview support, business and entrepreneurial skills and financial literacy, all of which equip them with the tools they need to thrive in life beyond school.

Our Sixth Form Centre is housed in an elegant, Victorian villa just a few moments’ walk away from the Main School building, allowing girls to develop independence whilst still benefiting from our outstanding Senior School facilities, including state-of-the-art science labs, drama, dance and art studios, ample sports facilities and an onsite gym.

Whether girls join the school new in Year 12 or have transitioned from our Year 11 cohort, our Sixth Form is a warm, close-knit community which enjoys the benefit of their own dedicated Sixth Form centre, whilst also enjoying all the benefits of remaining part of a leading Senior School environment. The years girls spend with us in the Sixth Form are characterised by greater levels of independence, developing key leadership skills and exploring opportunities  which help our students to flourish into kind, confident young women ready for whatever the future holds.
