Twenty Experts make Interview Workshops a Real Challenge
Saturday morning at Sheffield Girls’ Sixth Form was very much like a scene out of The Apprentice this week. Forty students arrived impeccably presented in ‘business dress’ to take part in the annual Interview Workshop event, organised this year by Mr Spick, Head of Year 13.
The Workshop provides an excellent opportunity for the girls to hone their interview technique with an experienced professional or academic in preparation for university interviews coming up over the next few months. This year the event involved twenty experts from fifteen subject areas, including Medicine, Dentistry, Earth Science, Law and Politics.
‘Having the opportunity to be questioned by professionals whom the girls are not familiar with allows us to create an environment as close as possible to a ‘normal’ interview situation,’ commented Mr Spick. ‘When it comes to interviews, practice and preparation are the key to ensuring the students make the most of the short window of opportunity they have to impress the panel.’
Mrs Dunsford thanked all the parents and friends of the school who gave up their time to conduct the interviews and for the very helpful feedback they provide for the girls.
‘It is opportunities like this which help our girls to be so successful in gaining places at their first choice university.’ she said.
The Workshop proved to be an outstanding learning opportunity for the girls on what was a very successful morning, and will no doubt be of vital importance when it comes to the real thing.
