Spreading Christmas cheer with our annual Carol Service at St. Marie’s Cathedral
We recently held our annual Christmas Carol Service at St. Marie’s Cathedral in Sheffield City Centre.
The evening began with a stunning solo introduction to ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, sung by Year 13 student, Adithi Harikrishnan. The service continued, packed full with readings and performances by girls of all ages, including the Junior School’s ‘Angel Delight’ and ‘Pop’ Choirs, to a hymn in German, and a Gaelic Blessing. Head Girl, Emma Crookes, was joined by Head, Mrs. Gunson, to perform a reading of ‘The Mystery of the Incarnation’.
The joint Birkdale and Sheffield Girls’ Sixth Form choirs gave their spectacular renditions of the ‘Zithel Carol’ and ‘Ding Dong Merrily on High’, creating breath-taking musical texture in the performances. All the choirs combined to sing ‘The Colours of Christmas’ which is always a popular number and the evening concluded with ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, a perfect end to a memorable service.
The service was held in aid of two charities, Weston Park Cancer and Chicks - Country Holidays for Inner City Breaks. We’re incredibly proud to announce that the evening raised an incredible £912 for two such worthwhile causes.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all of those involved in making the evening such a success, it’s fair to say everyone left feeling that little bit more festive.
