Sheffield High School for Girls is 139 years old this year!

Sheffield High School for Girls is 139 years old this year! On Friday 10 March the School welcomed alumni, current and former staff and friends to celebrate and see the school in action.

Our guests were treated to an afternoon of tea and cake, tours of the school and an opportunity to see examples of projects that the girls have recently been involved in, and excerpts from recent performances.

Exhibits of 3D printing done by our 3D and Coding Club, using our 3D printer kindly funded by FOSH and a display of Robotics by our Robotics Club, fresh from winning ‘Best Robot Design’ in the ‘Tomorrow’s Engineers EEP (Elite Engineering Programme) Robotics Challenge’.

We heard the voices of Angel Delight and the Year 7 & 10 voices ensembles and enjoyed a display of gymnastics by Freya Grant in Year 8; Sakshi Jha in Year 9 performed a monologue from Henry VI, which she first performed in the English Speaking Union’s national competition 'Performing Shakespeare', and will take to the final round of the competition at the Gielgud Theatre in London later this month. Year 8 performed their very entertaining version of Jack & the Beanstalk in Latin, which they first performed at the Regional Classics Reading competition at Leeds University on 1 March.

Finally, our guest enjoyed excerpts from our forthcoming production of ‘Wizard of Oz’.
