Sheffield Girls' wins National Recognition for Outstanding Careers Support
“The provision at Sheffield High is impressive and is testimony to the commitment of the Careers Leader and the value allocated to it by the whole school. Careers is a significant part of the culture of the school and leads to aspirational and thoughtful learners – well equipped to move into the next phase of their lives”.
We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded the nationally recognised Career Mark Platinum Award this month. The award recognises the consistent, high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance provided at our school to students across every year group. We are one of only two schools in the region to achieve this top standard.
Following the Career Mark Assessor’s visit in April, she commented that: “learners demonstrate high levels of self-awareness and appropriate understanding of the world of work and a range of different career paths. They apply sound judgement to making decisions for themselves and show high levels of aspiration and autonomy in planning their futures.”
She went on to report that: “students show high levels of career management competence, they are thoughtful and critical thinkers...the programme of learning at Sheffield Girls’ is thoughtfully designed to allow for effective career learning and there is an excellent level of engagement with a range of employers and alumnae”.
Head of Careers, Sarah Metcalfe-Murgatroyd said: “We are so proud that our careers programme has been recognised nationally as an excellent example of what can be achieved. I am passionate about the importance of career education information and guidance for young people to help inspire, motivate and excite students about their futures. Our aim is to prepare students to be managers of their own careers in a fast changing world and be ready to embark on ‘squiggly career’ journeys in a way that no generation before them has ever seen. All staff at Sheffield Girls' work hard to ensure that careers is firmly embedded in everything that we do so that our students not only dream big but go on to fulfil those dreams in the real world of work”.
