Sheffield Girls’ students demonstrate their business credentials, scooping prizes in Young Enterprise and BiG Challenge competitions.
This week a team of budding entrepreneurs from Year 12 attended the Young Enterprise Awards in Leeds. Having created a book that focuses on educating young people (aged 6-9) about three current issues faced in the world today: the environment, cost of living and war and international relations, five team members were given the chance to present their product to a panel of judges. After demonstrating a thorough understanding of their target market, reflected in the book contents, they were delighted to win the Customer Service Award.
The accolades didn’t stop there though, as the following night one of our Year 9 BiG Challenge team was presented with the ‘HEPP award for Aiming High’ at the Sheffield Awards Evening celebrating the achievements of all pupils taking part in this annual enterprise challenge in the city.
This year 17 teams from Year 9 at Sheffield Girls’ have established new businesses as part of this challenge, creating products ranging from soap and keyrings, to jewellery and gift boxes. Yasmeen and Cecillia set up ‘Cupid Accessories’ selling a range of affordable accessories that could be bought with pocket money, aimed at children and young adults. The girls presented their business idea in front of a panel of 4 judges at the event, hosted at the Showroom Workstation and were recognised for their determination, teamwork and high ambitions.
