Sheffield Girls’ Sixth Form students excited to begin annual SHINE mentoring programme for primary school pupils across Sheffield
Each year students and staff from Sheffield Girls’ welcome primary school students from eight schools across Sheffield to take part in SHINE, which aims to help pupils build confidence, develop new skills and most importantly, provide an opportunity to have fun with new friends on a Saturday morning. This year's ten week programme involves 36 children and features sessions including drama, creative computing, dinosaurs and trampolining.
We caught up with Izzy and Imani, two of this year’s SHINE mentors, who shared why they were so keen to take part in the programme. Imani said, ‘This is a great opportunity to share with younger people what I’ve been privileged to learn in the environment I’ve been in at Sheffield Girls. I’m looking forward to building relationships with the students and helping them learn new and exciting things.’ Izzy shared, ‘I want to be able to make learning a positive, comfortable and exciting experience for the students and I’m looking forward to seeing them progress over the course of the programme, make new friends and become more confident in themselves.’
We’re excited to catch up with our SHINE mentors throughout the programme and hear about the fun sessions they’ve been involved with.
A special thank you to Henry Boot for their ongoing support and contribution to SHINE. We look forward to welcoming them to School to host a specialised careers session as part of the programme early next year.
