Sheffield Girls' reflects on fantastic Drama programme
This year we celebrated outstanding GCSE and A Level results in our Drama department which reflected the exceptional quality of our programme at Sheffield Girls’, including the curriculum and our extensive extra-curricular provision.
With an impressive 100% A*/A grades at A Level and 80% 8-9 grades at GCSE, our Drama department is dedicated to fostering creativity and expression alongside effective communication, design and technical skills, which builds confidence in our students.
Our comprehensive Drama curriculum is designed to nurture and develop each student's unique interests. Whether it's on-stage performance, costume design, scriptwriting, lighting, or set design, there are a wide range of opportunities for everyone.
Beyond the classroom, we provide additional experiences such as LAMDA tuition and exams, public performances, trips, clubs, and competitions, ensuring a well-rounded exposure to the world of drama. There is something for every student to explore and enjoy.
LAMDA plays a significant role in our drama community at Sheffield Girls’. We offer break and lunchtime sessions for students pursuing qualifications, which include solo acting, duologue acting, and verse and prose speaking to name a few.
We are thrilled to have Marie Gair, one of only 200 LAMDA examiners and teachers worldwide, as part of our school community.
Marie says: “LAMDA offers a suite of communication and performance examinations designed to develop life skills such as clear communication, self-confidence, and teamwork through the creative platforms of drama, literature, and music.
“Having taught LAMDA for 25 years, I have seen how it improves self-expression, strengthens memory, and provides young people with the confidence and communication skills needed for any career path. Higher LAMDA qualifications also contribute UCAS points, helping students secure their desired higher education courses.
“The vocal expression and confidence gained from studying LAMDA remain with students for a lifetime. I once asked an adult and former LAMDA student what their LAMDA studies provided them with: 'a belief that I can present myself.' Studying for LAMDA exams broadened my interests beyond the school curriculum and gave me the confidence to stand up and be heard.”
Studying drama at Sheffield Girls’ offers a holistic learning experience that nurtures emotional, social and intellectual growth and many of our students use their experiences in the subject to help build their Girls of Steel character education portfolio - another unique area of provision at Sheffield Girls. Whether pursued as a future career or a personal passion, the skills and experiences gained from our Drama curriculum are widely applicable and invaluable in many aspects of life.
