Sheffield Girls' pupil Scarlett Archer and FYI Team win Bafta for Ukraine TV special
A huge congratulations to Scarlett in Year 10, who is celebrating this week after scooping the Bafta Children and Young People’s Award in the ‘Non-scripted’ category.
Scarlett has been a part of the reporting team for Sky Kids’ news programme ‘FYI’ for a number of years and earlier this year featured as the main reporter in their ‘Escape from Ukraine’ special covering the conflict in Europe.
During the programme, Scarlett met with families fleeing Ukraine and reflected on the mass movement of people across borders into neighbouring territories.
Bafta recognised the incredible work of Scarlett and the whole team at Sky Productions as they were announced winners of the non-scripted award in Sunday night’s prestigious event.
The Awards which covered 14 categories coincided with BAFTAs dedicated festival weekend, celebrating its renewed focus for the children’s film, games and television industries
Emma Baehr, Executive Director of Awards and Content, said: “Our Awards recognise the very best in children’s media industries. By combining the Awards into a weekend festival BAFTA is able to spotlight this community and showcase what has been achieved during the year.”
Reflecting on her achievement, Scarlett said quite simply that she was “so proud to be part of this wonderful team.”
We actively support the extra-curricular endeavours of all our pupils, ensuring students can pursue their various passions whilst also excelling in their academic pursuits. Nina Gunson, Head, said: “We are absolutely delighted to see Scarlett’s dedication and hard work recognised by Bafta. The whole team at FYI have done an incredible job highlighting the plight of Ukrainian citizens and in particular children. Over the course of the last two years it has been wonderful to see Scarlett’s own journalistic skills and instincts develop as she’s taken on increasingly challenging topics, including a recent interview with the Prime Minister. Congratulations Scarlett.”
