Sheffield Girls’ Infant and Junior School Pupils Collaborate with Steel City Marketing

During the Summer Term, Year 5 pupils in the Junior School enjoyed participating in a collaborative Design and Technology project with leading UK manufacturing supplier Steel City Marketing. This marked an exciting development in our Junior girls’ Character Education programme, allowing pupils to put their design and innovation skills into practice by solving real-world problems.

The project saw Year 5 girls tasked with designing a branded toy or kit for children admitted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Following a series of talks and interactive workshops led by Steel City, pupils worked diligently and collaboratively on their designs. They then had the opportunity to put their pitching skills into action and present their designs to a panel of experts, who were inspired by our pupils’ ‘ideas, energy and enthusiasm’.

Chris Hald, outgoing Head of Juniors, commented: “Our partnership with Steel City has provided a fantastic opportunity for our Junior School pupils to further develop, and put into practice, some of the life skills we place such great emphasis on through our programme of character education. Our own ‘girls of steel’ have enjoyed the chance to tackle real-world design challenges, learn how to present to professionals in industry and in doing so strengthen their communication skills and build their confidence. We’re enormously grateful to Steel City for providing this opportunity and we look forward to future collaborations.”

Thank you once again to Steel City for joining us last term. We look forward to the girls putting their innovation skills into action in the Autumn Term as they continue their character development programme.
