Sheffield Girls' hosts its 147th Birthday Celebration

Our alumnae enjoying the afternoon
Last Friday, we welcomed back over 40 alumnae, former staff, governors, and friends of Sheffield Girls’ to celebrate our 147th birthday! It was a delight to see so many of our community, both past and present, gather to enjoy an afternoon filled with cake, laughter, and the kind of warmth only years of memories and friendship can bring to a room.
The afternoon began with a welcome speech from our incoming Head Alex Wilson, who took the time to look back on what a tremendous year we have had both academically and beyond. Our alumnae welcomed Alex with open arms as she described looking forward to leading the school in the years to come.
A treasured member of alumnae community and former staff member Helen Thorneloe commented on the event, ‘I thought it was a delightful afternoon! The entertainment of snippets from the year were excellent. We were fortunate to hear the incoming Head address the group and I thought she got the feel for Sheffield Girls' just right.’
Throughout the afternoon, our wonderful Sixth Form girls were on hand to whisk alumnae away on tours of the school, allowing them to reminisce amongst the corridors they once knew so well.
After having some time to catch-up and mingle, the afternoon came to a delightful end with a programme of pupil performances that had been organised especially for the day. Our guests delighted in an array of musical variations, gymnastics routines and Shakespeare readings from our girls, the performances acting as a reminder of the kind of excellence that has defined Sheffield Girls' for so many years.

The class of 1991
It was especially heart-warming to welcome back so many of our class from 1991, who chose the event to host their reunion. Reflecting on the event, one alumnae of the class shared the following:
‘I loved stepping back into the school, which I attended from the age of 4 - 18, it was a huge part of my life. It is always great to share memories again with lots of friends I am still in touch with and see regularly, and also friends I haven't seen for 33-35 years. I felt warmly welcomed and proud to be part of the history of what looks like an amazing school these days too.’
It continues to be a privilege and a delight to welcome back alumnae, last Friday's celebrations serving as a warm reminder of the strength of our school community.
