Sheffield Girls' Head of e-Learning, Stephen Wiles, speaks at Bett 2025 on Girls in Leadership
Sheffield Girls’ Head of e-Learning, Stephen Wiles, took to the stage at Bett 2025, the world’s largest EdTech forum, on Thursday 23rd January. Speaking at the Google stand on ‘Opportunities for Girls to Lead’ alongside Ted Lamb from Belvedere Academy GDST, Mr Wiles shared invaluable insights on how technology continues to empower our community.
Mr Wiles’ talk highlighted the school’s innovative approach to using the Google Suite of tools and Chromebooks to enhance education and encourage leadership opportunities for girls in technology. He reflected on how our approach to integrating Google for Education tools has cultivated an environment of collaboration in our classrooms, reshaping how learning takes place and enabling more pupils to take on leadership roles.
The talk also reflected on how our unique digital strategy has unlocked innovative leadership opportunities for our girls, for example the launch of our ‘Digital Leaders’ programme, both equipping pupils with skills to thrive and directly addressing the gender inequality gap in the digital landscape as set out in the GDST’s recent landmark insights report and framework, ‘Designing the Future of Girls Education’. Mr Wiles’ also shared insights into how our digital strategy has helped to embed a culture of risk-taking and resisting perfectionism, embodying the framework’s findings on how and why girls thrive in all-girls schools.
Reflecting on his experience, Mr Wiles said: "It was an absolute joy to speak at the Google stand at Bett. Google gave us the opportunity to spread the word of our student and staff expertise in using Google Tools and Chromebooks. With standing room only, plenty of visitors to Bett had the opportunity to see and hear about the innovative uses of technology at Sheffield Girls’."
