Sheffield Girls’ Embraces an Inspiring Autumn Term of PSHE Education

During the Autumn Term at Sheffield Girls’, our students enjoyed a vibrant and meaningful journey through our engaging PSHE curriculum. The term was filled with enriching activities, workshops, performances and impactful initiatives that align perfectly with our ethos of fostering a positive, courageous and kind community.

At Sheffield Girls’, our PSHE curriculum is crafted to help our students build confidence, flourish as individuals and be prepared to make a difference in an ever-changing world. By focusing on health, wellbeing, relationships and life in the wider world, we aim to equip our girls with the knowledge, empathy and skills they need to thrive at school and beyond.

Highlights from our Autumn Term PSHE Activities

Year 9 Roundabout Homelessness Workshop
Our Year 9 students welcomed representatives from Roundabout, a Sheffield-based charity dedicated to ending youth homelessness in South Yorkshire.

Brittany, one of the charity’s team members, shared her deeply personal story of overcoming homelessness with the support of Roundabout.

This inspiring workshop encouraged students to reflect on the challenges faced by vulnerable young people and the power of compassion and community action.

Anti-Bullying Week Assembly
This year’s Anti-Bullying Week theme, 'Choose Respect’, resonated throughout our school and was highlighted by an impactful assembly led by our PSHE students.

The assembly highlighted the importance of kindness, respect and understanding in building a strong and supportive community.

Our student leaders reminded their peers of the many ways they can demonstrate kindness and respect in their daily lives, both within and beyond Sheffield Girls’.

‘SMASHED’ Alcohol Awareness Performance
We were thrilled to host SMASHED, a dynamic theatre company that using live performances to educate young people about the risks of underage drinking. Through an engaging and thought-provoking production, senior students explored the social and emotional consequences of alcohol misuse, as well as strategies for making informed decisions.

Elent Finance Workshop
Financial literacy has increasingly emerged in research as a particularly important skill for young people, especially young women. The GDST's recent report 'Designing the Future of Girls Education' recognised this demand, reporting that 70% of 11-18 year olds cited financial literacy as a key skill that they wanted to learn from school.

Meeting this demand is one of the key priorities of our PSHE curriculum, and last term our students had the privilege of learning invaluable financial skills from Abigail Foster, founder of Elent Finance.

Covering topics such as budgeting, payslips, pensions and savings, Abi shared practical knowledge with our students to help them navigate financial challenges and confidently manage their future finances.

White Ribbon Day
To mark White Ribbon Day, Sheffield Girls’ hosted a bake sale and staff and students wore white ribbons in support of ending violence against women and girls. This initiative not only raised funds for the White Ribbon campaign but also promoted vital conversations about prevention and advocacy, fostering a culture of respect and awareness within our school.

Following White Ribbon Day, we also established our first Sheffield Girls' pupil VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls) Team who will continue to advocate for school-wide awareness and education on violence against women and girls.

First Aid Training

During the term, Year 10 also completed their British Heart Foundation RevivR First Aid training, learning basic first aid techniques and CPR, all of which could save someone's life in the future.

Looking Ahead

Our PSHE curriculum empowers our students with knowledge, empathy and actionable tools for personal growth and social change, and helps them to make a positive difference in the world around them. We’re already looking forward to the next activities during the Spring Term and beyond.
