Sheffield Girls’ Class of 2024 Celebrate Phenomenal A Level Results

A Level Results Day is once again upon us and we could not be more proud of our Class of 2024’s phenomenal achievements in their exam results. This year, 27% of grades were A*, compared to the national average of 9%. We celebrated 59% of grades A*-A and 82% A*-B, with a 100% pass rate across the board. Nine students also achieved straight A*s, which is 12% of the cohort.

We’re delighted this year to see 5 of our students head off to courses at Oxbridge with a further 40 students moving onto competitive courses at Russell Group institutions.

These university places and exam results are testament to the outstanding dedication and hard work of every student and teacher throughout the past two years.

This cohort’s results are amongst some of the best ever achieved at Sheffield Girls’, as we retain our position as one of the top independent schools in the North. These results are even more impressive as national mark schemes and grade boundaries return to pre-Covid levels with an expectation of decline in top results, with our girls achieving 59% A*-A grades compared to the national average of 28%.

Head, Nina Gunson, said: “Congratulations to the class of 2024! We wish you all the best of luck as you embark on the next exciting stage of your academic journey.”

This year, no less than 10 of our A Level subjects achieved more than 75% A*-A grades. Our students have seen particular success across STEM and MFL subjects, all of which are popular subject choices for many of our Sixth Formers. With national uptake in MFL subjects on a steady decline, these results and destinations show that this national trend is not the case Sheffield Girls’, where languages remain a thriving part of our curriculum.

We have also seen inordinate success this year across STEM subjects, with particular uptake in university engineering courses and six students embarking on exciting degrees in this area.

We are also proud of the outstanding results achieved by our Melbournians, who leave Sheffield Girls’ having been with us for 14 years since Reception.

Whilst we recognise the outstanding results of this year’s cohort, it’s also important to recognise that their academic achievements sit alongside a multitude of other achievements and accolades. Parent and School Governor, Ger Graus, acknowledged that this morning, commenting ‘that enabling, that empowerment, is what a good school does. It’s about more than exams. It’s about knowing the child beyond the number. And that's what this school does best.’

Whilst we will miss our Year 13 cohort as they head on to pastures new, we are saying goodbye to a group of confident, brave, kind young women who leave us not only armed with fantastic academic results, but having forged friendships and memories for life. We wish them all the best in their studies beyond Sheffield Girls’ and we can’t wait to welcome them back to school as treasured alumnae in years to come.

Huge congratulations once more to our Class of 2024!
