Sheffield Girls’ celebrates stunning achievements of GCSE students as the School leads in the region with 66% grades awarded at 8 or 9

Poppy Wood in iNews, reported this week that GCSE pupils have been told to prepare for disappointment as the Government's attempts to combat grade inflation could mean a drop in top grades and an increase in appeals, but pupils at Sheffield Girls’ have been delighted to see their hard work and dedication over a challenging two years, rewarded with high grades across the board.

66% of GCSE grades awarded at the School this year were at the top Grade 9/8.

Our Sports and PE Department were celebrating in style after hitting the back of the net with 100% of grades awarded at 9 and eight other Departments achieved 75% or more of grades at the top level.

Head Nina Gunson said: “After the challenges we have all faced over the last couple of years, our Year 11 students’ outstanding performance at GCSE is testament to their hard work and commitment, as well as the positivity and courage they have shown. They have such a strong sense of community as a Year group and it was great this morning to see them share in each other’s successes and celebrate with their parents and teachers.”

The national average for passing grades between 4-9 this year is 73% compared to Sheffield Girls’ rate of 99.5% and staff, pupils and parents alike are incredibly proud to see the School perform so strongly in the region at GCSEs after being the top performing school in the north last week for A Levels.

This year, just 2193 students across the whole of England achieved all 9s in their grades and we are over the moon that this includes 15 students from Sheffield Girls’.
