Sheffield Girls' Celebrates its 145th Birthday
At the end of last week Sheffield Girls’ celebrated its 145th birthday. When the original event was called off in March due to the snow, we knew we wanted to rearrange and find a date to celebrate as soon as we could, and so we were thrilled so many of our alumnae were able to return to the school and celebrate with us. With over 25 alumnae attendees, the event was the perfect opportunity to reunite with old friends and revisit our lovely environment here at Sheffield Girls’.
To kick off our birthday celebrations, our alumnae were welcomed by staff and both our Year 12 and Year 13 pupils. After settling with refreshments and catching up with the Sheffield Girls’ community, our attendees were greeted by our Head, Nina Gunson, who updated everyone on current news at the school and shared recent updates and school priorities.
Our guests were then given the opportunity to head down memory lane with a tour of the school from one of our Year 12 students - and a chance to see all of the wonderful things the girls have been up to!
Our alumnae also had the opportunity to browse through our recently digitised archive, using the schools’ chromebooks, which can be accessed via our website and this link http://sheffieldhighschoolforgirls.cook.websds.net/default.aspx
The afternoon culminated with fabulous performances from our pupils. Girls from Year 6 to Year 12 all gave vibrant performances ranging from gymnastics, dance, violin and piano as well as an extract from the recent school play and a public speaking piece. These gave a wonderful insight into the breadth of talent and confidence of our girls and were a delight to watch.
The afternoon was a wonderful way to celebrate the school and all that has been achieved by its pupils and staff, past and present, in our 145 year history. We look forward to many more exciting years to come!
