Sakshi's 'Performing Shakespeare' in the regional finals of the English Speaking Union 'Performing Shakespeare' Competition
In January, Sakshi Jha in Year 9 entered herself into a national competition with the English Speaking Union, called 'Performing Shakespeare', which is the UK's largest annual national Shakespeare competition for secondary school students.
The competition is intended to allow school pupils to enhance their understanding and enjoyment of Shakespeare through speaking and performing, encouraging self-expression, creativity and above all, self-confidence.
Sakshi was required to make a video entry of herself performing a Shakespeare monologue, which was then sent off to be adjudicated with the best entries then going through to the Regional Finals. She chose a monologue spoken by Joan of Arc, from Henry VI part 1.
Sakshi said: ‘I've really enjoyed getting to know the character I am playing. It has improved my confidence with performing to audiences and I am thrilled to be in the Regional Finals.
It was wonderful to hear that Sakshi successfully made it through to the North West finals, which take place on 7 February, a day which includes educational workshops and a live performance of her video entry!
