Poetry Day for Year 9

On 26 April, our regular visiting poet, Ash Dickinson, who is a writer, poet and comedy performer, ran two sessions with the groups introducing three poems from the GCSE anthology which they will all study next year on the GSCE English Literature course.

Originally designed as an event for ‘gifted and talented’ pupils, this year the day was opened out to all Year 9s who showed an interest in poetry. It was very interesting to see the poems from the point of view of a writer and examine the process of the poets’ thinking and intentions.

Although the workshops were challenging, they were very rewarding. The pupils attending the event are now preparing to share their explorations with the rest of the year group by way of presentations and group tasks.
