Novel knowledge: the Kids' Lit Quiz
Avid readers aged 10-13 had a fantastic day in a battle of the books at the Kid’s Lit Quiz (KLQ) 2019 on November 12.
Two teams of four from Sheffield Girls’ Junior and Senior School travelled to Bakewell for the East Midlands regional heat of the Kid’s Lit Quiz. They joined 22 teams from across the area and were asked to answer 100 tough questions, divided into 10 categories, on children’s literature.
This year’s themes included Adventure, Aliases, Beasts, Body Parts and Capitals. Each correct answer wins a point, and the winning teams move onto the National Finals, then the World Final. KLQ is popular across different countries internationally, including Australia, Canada, and the USA, so young fans of literature across the world can compete for the top spot.
All of the girls enjoyed themselves and came away with great scores of 74 and 68, only just missing placing in the top three out of all the teams. Adithi, Izzy, Esme and Bess won the Battles theme and were awarded a book each by twice winner of the Carnegie medal and longtime friend of the school, Berlie Doherty. Katarina, along with her team with Sonny, Amelia and Anyaa, also won a £2 spot prize.
Kimberley Godwin, Senior School Librarian said:
“The girls were fantastic representatives of the school and fellow book-loving pupils. We are enormously proud that the teams came joint 5th and 8th and we are incredibly proud of their results!”
