Medal Success in the GDST Trust Swimming Rally
On 3 October, a squad of 10 girls travelled to Northampton to take part in a GDST Trust Sports Rally in swimming. A team of Year 6 girls and a team of Year 5 girls competed at the event against other GDST schools throughout the country.
It was a fantastic day, and despite the early morning wakeup call the girls demonstrated courage, determination and resilience and put in some fantastic swims. We had eight finalists who competed again in the afternoon and in the finals we came away with five 1st places, one 2nd place, one 3rd place and a 4th place finish.
The swimming from all the girls was superb, our relay teams showed excellent teamwork and everyone supported and cheered on every race. The standard of the swimming from some of our girls was so high that we broke 3 GDST Swimming records that have stood since 2013. Sophie B in 100m and 50m Backstroke and Libby D in the 50m Freestyle.
Such excellent results from all the girls placed Sheffield Girls’ as A team (Year 6) Champions and overall we were runners up in the tournament. Another highlight for the girls was to have our medals and certificates presented to us by Paralympian Gold medalist from Rio Ellie Robinson.
