Georgia is British Biathlon Champ
In exciting sports news this week, Year 8 athlete Georgia Robertson was crowned the 2017 British Champion in the U13 girls’ Modern Biathlon, with Pentathlon GB international stars Sarah Collin and Myles Pillage presenting the awards.
The event, held at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre Solihull, on 25 and 26 November 2017, involves swimming and running. U13 classes swim 100m and run 1600m, with Georgia coming in 2nd place in the run, with a personal best time of 5.35.36 and 3rd in the swim, with a personal best of 1.05.59, which meant she won by 23 points overall.
Georgia said: ‘Despite the freezing cold day, I managed to do my fastest 1600m run and my fastest 100m swim in the final, so I am really happy to have won!’
Preliminary competitions for the modern biathlon series are held throughout Great Britain with the series culminating with the British Modern Biathlon Championships and British Schools' Modern Biathlon Championships. The 2017-18 season will conclude at Crystal Palace in March.
The sport has been popular since its inception with the majority of Pentathlon GB’s current international athletes, including all 4 Rio Olympians - Samantha Murray, Kate French, Jamie Cooke and Joe Choong – having competed in modern biathlons at the beginning of their modern pentathlon journeys.
