Celebrating 30 years of Drama
Over 50 alumnae and former staff joined Head of Drama, Chris Heery, over zoom to celebrate over 30 years of theatre at Sheffield Girls’ ahead of her retirement. Guests were treated to footage and photos from the archives as well as Chris’s memories of some of the highlights over the last 30 years including performances at the Merlin Theatre and the time that the Drama Studio flooded!
It has been wonderful to hear from so many of Chris’s former students, and to know how many alumnae have gone to work in the performing arts or to continue to explore creative projects in their free time. We heard from 2007 alumna Rachel Knowles who now works as an actor and has appeared on stage and screen, and runs performing arts workshops in the school holidays. She echoed what many other former pupils will have felt, that the opportunities to be a part of such professional school productions gave her such great confidence and experience when she went into her professional acting career.
Thank you to Chris for hosting the evening and for all of the wonderful experiences that she has given to her pupils over the years. We all wish you a very happy and relaxing retirement!
The Celebration of Drama is part of our series of online events that we hope that alumnae have enjoyed over the past year. All recordings are available on request from Alison Gardner (a.gardner@she.gdst.net)
