A Skilled GirlForce: International Day of the Girl Child 2018
Today is International Day of the Girl Child, an initiative by the United Nations to highlight and address the needs and challenges that girls around the world face, whilst also celebrating and promoting the empowerment of girls. As an all girls school in Sheffield, it's something that we encourage our pupils to engage with.
This year’s theme, “With Her: A Skilled GirlForce”, is focused on making sure girls have equal opportunities to attain skills and gain employability. Wewant to bring out the best in all of our girls, and we encourage them within a supportive, friendly and caring environment to develop their personal and intellectual talents to the full.
Our Head of Careers Carole Hall is proud of the strides that women have been making in the world of employment. She says, “This year has been a pivotal year for woman campaigning for equality in the workplace, particularly in relation to equal pay. It is fantastic to see women show the resilience needed to question current working practices and start to push themselves into greater positions of responsibility, where they can have a genuine influence on the workplace.”
No matter their aspirations, goals or dreams for the future, we empower our pupils with the skills and opportunities to take that next step with confidence. Our aim is for them to move forward from the school and successfully transition into the world of work as empowered, confident young women.
