A Level Success for Sheffield Girls’ Young Engineers
Sheffield’ Girls budding engineers have received outstanding exam results and higher education course places following A Level results day. We are delighted that six students will be leaving to study a variety of engineering courses at top universities.
This year, a record 42% of Maths grades awarded A*-A nationally, with our students going a step further with 89% of Maths grades awarded A*-A, and 100% of Further Maths grades awarded A*-A.
Lizzie has achieved particular success with three A*s in Chemistry, Maths and Physics, and one A in Further Maths. Lizzie will be going to her first choice university, the University of Manchester, to study Mechanical Engineering with a year in industry. Reflecting on her choice to pursue this degree, she commented: “I did work experience in Mechanical engineering which is what made me want to do it, and I like the fact there’s freedom to go into any area with it.”
We have seen steady uptake in our girls pursuing higher education engineering courses throughout the past few years, and this year’s destinations prove that the route is more popular than ever. Sixth Form Initiatives such as our participation in the Industrial Cadets Gold Award scheme have accelerated this, offering Year 12 girls the opportunity to partner with leading engineering companies and gain real world experience.
We can’t wait to see what our budding engineers get up to as they depart us, and we look forward to them returning to Sheffield Girls’ in years to come to share their exciting new innovations.
