Academic Results

At Sheffield Girls’ our pupils do not sit SATS exams. We use GL Assessments Progress Tests to monitor progress from year to year and to benchmark performance against national trends.

The Progress Test in English (PTE) provides a reliable test of children’s attainment in the core English skills: phonics, reading, spelling, grammar, punctuation and comprehension. Each test has similar tasks and so tests similar aspects of English attainment across the age range.

The Progress Test in Maths (PTM) assesses two dimensions of maths learning:

  1. Mathematical content knowledge
  2. Understanding and applying mathematical processes

The below data demonstrates the exceptional results we see in these core assessed subjects when compared with national averages, and these outcomes are mirrored in the attainment levels pupils reach in other key curriculum subject areas.

At Sheffield Girls’ we regularly monitor each individual pupil’s progress and provide regular feedback to parents and carers. This continues throughout their time in Juniors and as they progress into our Senior School where academic attainment is closely tracked to ensure the girls are meeting and exceeding their targets. We set high standards, but apply an individualised approach, to ensure that every girl, regardless of academic ability can thrive within the School.
