Science Week

Activities to celebrate Science Week have been ongoing across all year groups and it has been exciting to see how engaged the girls have been. The Year 9s enjoyed a trip to the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham and a group of Year 10s led Science workshops for children at Tinsley Meadows Junior School.

The Year 7-9s have been working on independent projects over the past few weeks in which they were asked to investigate a Scientific topic of interest, which could include designing an experiment to test out a theory. There was some outstanding work produced, which was displayed in the Senior Science Fair. The projects were judged by Cathy Collett, one of our alumnae who is currently studying for a PhD in Chemical Engineering.

In Year 12, Issy Martin, Fu Ge Yang, Safia Cecchini and Lucy Buchanan took part in the National Engineering Education Scheme where pupils are assigned a real world engineering problem to solve. The team worked in collaboration with Network Rail to produce a report and working prototype for detecting the misuse of level crossings. The judges were absolutely amazed by the quality of the written report and the professional and confident approach taken by the whole team. and the group won the top prize of Best Project.
