Insight Into Teaching

Sheffield Girls’ is holding its Insight Into Teaching initiative for five days next week to allow 13 would-be teachers to immerse themselves in Sheffield school life.

The programme is organised jointly by the Infant, Junior and Senior schools and provides individuals with the opportunity to spend time in school and try out some teaching, with a full programme of lesson observation and activities.

There will also be a full training day with sessions including what makes an outstanding teacher, how to survive your first year, routes into teaching and an employability workshop delivered by Sheffield Girls’ staff and external experts from Sheffield Hallam University.

Attendees include a mix of individuals from a variety of backgrounds including former pupils, parents considering a career change and university students.

Mrs White said: ‘For people thinking about a career in teaching, then spending time in school is extremely important. This programme offers a valuable insight into the profession and the opportunity to talk to teachers to find out about what teaching is like. Not only can the attendees observe lessons but they can watch different teaching styles and make a more informed decision about their teaching career.’
