A Wonderful Week for Sports at Sheffield Girls'

As always it has been another very busy week for sports teams. The end of the Winter Sports Season saw ten teams compete across two consecutive weekends in Gymnastics and Trampolining. On Friday and Saturday our Yorkshire Team champions in four age groups, U11, U13, U16 and U19, competed in the National Milano Gymnastics Finals in Stoke, performing individual floor and vault together with a team floor routine.

In this competition the girls in teams of four perform an individual floor and vault together with a team floor routine. There were 22 teams in each competition (the best 2 from each UK region). All the Sheffield Girls’ teams competed with fantastic poise with all teams placing in the top 10 in the country. Congratulations to the U16 Team (Sephora Ford, Freya Grant, Jessica Rodgers and Isobel Tupholme) who won Bronze, which is the first National Milano medal the school have ever won.

The girls are very excited at the prospect of travelling via the fast ferry from Holyhead to Dublin this coming weekend when six trampolining teams will represent the school as North of England Champions at the Nationals in Belfast. We wish all the teams well (two U11 teams, U14, U15, and two U19 teams) and also Anna Eason, Emily Wyman, Freya Grant and Lucy Horan who have qualified individually. Freya and Lucy will lead our U19 Team (themselves plus Sephora Ford and Elena Hirst) in the Elite category of competitors.

They both compete at National level and are exceptionally busy training for the English National Championships. Meanwhile Sephora Ford and Jessica Vega have been balancing their gymnastics and Trampolining competitions with Diving at National Level. Last weekend they competed in the G Star North East region competition; Sephora smashed her personal best in the springboard section and Jessica ended in 4th on the 3m board, beating members of the GB team who are going to the Commonwealth Games next month.

Our congratulations also go to Georgia Robertson in Year 8 who was crowned U13 national schools’ Biathlon champion at Crystal Palace over the weekend. Georgia competed in freezing conditions in the track and swimming events, winning overall by just two points.
